Administrative Support volunteers assist the department personnel by performing administrative support duties as required including filing office records, data entry, copying, shredding of documents, answering phones and other duties depending on experience.

Requirements:
- At least 16 years or older with a government issued ID (driver’s license, military ID or passport).
- Previous administrative experience (volunteer or paid) with computer usage preferred.
- A minimum of 6-months commitment preferred.
- Approximately 4+ hours per week.

Pre Application:
- Must submit an online volunteer application that will include a background check, online General Orientation and Protective Behaviors Training (if under 18 years old 2 letters of recommendation are required, if over 18 years old a background check is required).
-Re-certification required every 3 years for background check, General Orientation, and Protective Behaviors Training. If over 18 years old a background re-screen is required.


POSITION DESCRIPTION RECRUITING LOCATIONS


A Sub Committee Leaders plays a vital role in a fundraising event. The Sub Committee Leader is responsible for overseeing the committee leading up to and the day of the event. POSITION DESCRIPTION


An Event Photographer/Videographer volunteer helps capture the special moments in lives of Special Olympics athletes during competitions and other special events.

Requirements:
-At least 18 years or older with a government issued ID (driver’s license, military ID or passport).
- Exceptional core photojournalism skills (photography and/or videography).
-Ability to edit content to meet project needs.
-1 year commitment preferred.
-Must be willing to travel to different locations/events to shoot.
-Schedule is flexible but a minimum 2 hour commitment for competitions is preferred.
-Conference call with the regional staff lead prior to assignment.

POSITION DESCRIPTION


Crossing the finish line. Scoring a point. Sticking your landing. Celebrating with the team. Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) is dedicated to moments such as these, because it is through these moments – and all the moments that lead up to them – that our athletes find strength, success, confidence, and joy. Fans make joy happen. For athletes who do not have family or a support system, Fans are the ones that help cheer them on to the finish line. Fans receive and give more high fives than we can count. Our Fan Experience Coordinators make sure that fans have the tools and energy needed to cheer on the athletes. We cannot do it alone. But, together, we can all experience one of the greatest moments in sports. So, step onto the podium with us and take your place on the team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage online volunteer registration for Fan in the Stands and Fan Experience Tours, create spreadsheet with volunteer information, shifts, and roles
- Send confirmation emails and details to volunteers one week prior to championship
- Review and update script for tours given by Global Messengers (during Summer & Fall Games only)
- Lead volunteers at the Fan Experience Booth, train and orient volunteers prior to their shift
- Design the Fan Experience Booth and energize fans to give the most cheer

Training & Support:
- Ongoing support from SOSC Fan Experience Manager
- Receive training on registration system and access to SOSC email account

Commitment:
- The bulk of this work is done 2 months prior to each Championship (Summer Games, Fall Games, and Floor Hockey Championship). Ideally, the Fan Experience Coordinator can lead us for each Championship; however, he/she can get a feel for it after the first Championship.
Summer Games – 2nd weekend in June (Saturday & Sunday)
Fall Games – 2nd weekend in November (Saturday & Sunday)
Floor Hockey Championship – March (Sunday only)
- Commitment for each Championship:
2 months prior, collecting volunteer registration and tracking on spreadsheet. 1 week prior, send email confirmations to registered volunteers. Manage booth ¬both days (Saturday & Sunday) of Games (Hockey is only a one day championship)

Requirements:
- Ability to effectively manage volunteers
- Experience in event management is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to set up a creative Fan Experience Booth that welcomes high energy and joy
- Have valid California driver’s license and meet minimum California vehicle insurance requirements

POSITION DESCRIPTION


GMS Data Entry volunteers assist the department personnel by performing heavy data entry support duties as required. Other administrative support duties may include filing office records and copying.

Requirements:
- At least 18 years or older with a government issued ID (driver’s license, military ID or passport).
- Previous computer and data entry experience (volunteer or paid) preferred.
- Volunteer opportunities onsite Monday-Friday 9am-4pm.
- Flexible weekday schedule.
- 10+ hours per week, 9-month commitment preferred.
- Previous computer and data entry experience (volunteer or paid) preferred.
- Access to a computer and the ability to communicate via email on a consistent basis.

POSITION DESCRIPTION


A Global Messenger Speech Coach assists a Global Messenger in writing and preparing for an inspiring and impactful mission focused message tailored to the audience they are speaking to. View position description.

Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older with a government issued ID (driver’s license, military ID or passport).
- At least 1 year of experience in public speaking and/or presentations
- A minimum of 1 year commitment is mandatory for this position
- Approximately 5 to 8 hours per month

A Marketing Videographer/Editor works on special projects, shoots and edits videos including testimonials and athlete profiles.

Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older with a government issued ID (driver’s license, military ID or passport).
- Must have and use personal videography equipment and access to video editing software and proficiency in using it.
- Exceptional core photojournalism skills (photography and videography).
- 1 year commitment preferred.
- Approximately 1-8 hours per shoot.

The Media Relations Volunteer uses newfound skills and expertise to further the narrative of SOSC. The promotion of SOSC Athletes – their stories, their accomplishments is what grows the organization’s athlete and supporter base. The intern is the driving force behind this initiative. Requirements:
- At least 18 years of age with valid ID
- Must have experience in conducting interviews
- Background in journalism, reporting (onscreen or off) – writing is required
- Familiarity with AP style writing
- Must be able to meet deadlines (however, deadlines will be set to work around volunteer schedule)
- Must have superior customer service skills
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must submit an online volunteer application that will include a background check and required training – recertification required every 3 years
- Must submit writing sample and resume as part of application process
- Must have reliable transportation to and from worksite and event locations

A photographer photographs Special Olympics athletes and events to help us highlight the movement.

- Shoots can range from 1 – 8 hours.
