Journey to the Final Leg
5/1/2018

WIth Spring comes many different activities in San Diego. On top of all the competitions through the Community Program and through the Schools Program, the Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraising season is here as well! So far we've had six Tip-A-Cops across the county from Urge Gastropub & Common House in San Marcos, to the Boathouse Restaurant in San Diego, all the way down to Nicky Rottens in Coronado. And we still have more to come!

In addition, our law enforcement friends from across the county are busy recruiting runners and donations for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run. In just one month, law enforcement has raised over $50,000 for our San Diego County athletes. Next time you see an officer, make sure to thank them for their unwavering support!

Celebrating Chief Froomin
5/1/2018

It is with heavy but grateful hearts that we share, Chief Jon Froomin will be retiring and returning to his home in Northern California. Chief Froomin has been an active volunteer and supporter of Special Olympics for well over a decade. He began volunteering in Northern California and brought his passion for our athletes to Southern California when he accepted the position of Chief of Police for the City of Coronado. Chief Froomin played an active role in ensuring Coronado Police Department participates in the Law Enforcement Torch run, and he is a member of the San Diego County Regional Leadership Council.

However, Chief Froomin's biggest impact has been as a Games Management Team volunteer. At nearly every competition hosted in San Diego County you'll find Jon; not in his uniform, but in his Special Olympics gear, making sure our competitions go as smoothly and with as much fun as possible for our athletes. His dedication and passion for our athletes will be missed immensely, and we cannot thank him enough for his support.

Join us in wishing Chief Froomin all the best in retirement! We'll miss you Chief!

Global Messengers - Athlete opportunities beyond sports.
2/6/2018

At Special Olympics in San Diego County we provide eleven different sport opportunities to our athletes. But did you know, we also provide leadership and public speaking opportunities?

We are looking for new athletes to join our Global Messenger Program. If you are an athlete who loves to talk about Special Olympics and who is interested in learning about public speaking, we want you! Through our Global Messenger Program you will receive training on public speaking, and will be paired with a local speech coach who will work with you on your speeches and practicing your public speaking. You will also have the opportunity to represent Special Olympics in the community by sharing your story during special events, with donors, with local business partners, and even on tv.
