Coach Of The Year

Scott Ogata has been nominated by Special Olympics Southern California to be Special Olympics North America coach of the year. Scott has been a SOSC volunteer for 27 years. “Coaching gives me a way to give back to the athletes, to provide them a foundation to live out their dreams. I grew up playing sports and Special Olympics provides athletes the opportunity to be able to compete in the same atmosphere that I competed in"

Scott is also a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department Operations South Bureau. He brought his love and passion for working with Special Olympics to the department when he joined in 1995. Since joining the department, he has been an outstanding model of volunteer coach to other members of the department. Scott shares his passion with other members in the department, which had led to recruiting other coaches and countless fundraising activities. In 2017, he helped the department raise over $47,000 through several Law Enforcement Torch Run activities for Special Olympics Southern California Athletes.
