Celebrate Champions by Shopping at Albertsons, Vons, & Pavilions

Join Johnny Hekker from the Los Angeles Rams and use your grocery shopping to benefit the great athletes of Special Olympics Southern California. From July 8 through August 1, shoppers at Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions can make a donation to help support their local athletes.

Through this campaign, you can help us impact the lives of 3,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities!

A Little Tenderness

A naval base can seem pretty no-nonsense, but a tender side was on display in one officer’s interaction with Special Olympics Ventura County athlete Ian Eaton during the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg. Ian, who uses a knee walker, was assisted over to the security patrol vehicle, allowed to sit inside and look around. While the officers provided him support at times, Ian showed his determination by running with the torch while he pedaled with his walker.

“This is the one thing he talks about all year,” Ian’s mother, Jean, told the Ventura County Star.

Thanks to All Final Leg Participants!

In this year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg, 1,200 officers covered nearly 900 miles.

Among the highlights, more than $21,000 was raised in San Diego County with the help of nearly 20 chiefs at the federal, state and local levels. Nearly 100 runners made up Orange County’s largest group and picked up the Flame of Hope from Camp Pendleton.

At the 2017 Summer Games, Law Enforcement Torch Run presented Special Olympics Southern California a check for $1,528,125.

Tip-A-Cops are nearing in San Diego and Orange County. Officers serve as celebrity waiters, and all tips will be donated to support Special Olympics athletes in the area. Be sure to join us for a delicious evening with your fellow officers or sign up to help host a Tip-A-Cop.

LAPD Central Division

The Los Angeles Police Department Central Division raised $10,000 through its annual Tip-A-Cop at Urth Caffé, the LETR softball tournament and by reaching out to business owners to support the Central Leg. The softball tournament, which featured 24 law enforcement teams from L.A. and San Gabriel Valley, was won by the LASD Twin Towers.

Thank you LAPD Central Division for all your support! Looking to get your agency involved with Special Olympics, contact Rich Fernandez at rfernandez@sosc.org or 562.502.1132.
