RE-CERTIFICATION
** Because all head Coaches
MUST
be certified to coach at Chapter Championships
(beginning with Summer Games 2005), the SOSC Sports
Department will be solely concentrating on procuring
Level 1 Certifications for
ALL
of our coaches at the present time.
** Please check back often for the latest Coaches’
Trainings.
**Advancement opportunities (Coaching Levels 2, 3,
4, etc.) will commence in July, 2005.
After the first level of Special Olympics Southern
California’s Coaching Education System, coaches can
choose from among many approved courses for
re-certification, maintaining certification, or
continuing education. This includes Unified Sports
Course, Principles of Coaching Course,
sport-specific Tactics Course, Mentoring, Rules
Update, CPR Courses, Protective Behaviors, Positive
Coaching Alliance Workshops, etc. However from the
perspective of upgrading certification, a hierarchy
of courses are suggested that build upon knowledge
and experience.
All
coursework (except the General Orientation) requires
a 10-hour practicum in working with Special
Olympics athletes along with completing the
Application for Sports Training Certification.
