2008 LAUSD Spring Games Brings Students Together

 

WHEN:  Fri., May 2, Compton Community College, 111 E. Artesia Blvd., Compton and Wed., May 7, Chaminade High School in West Hills

 

WHAT: Special Olympics Southern California, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Unified School District, is hosting the 2008 LAUSD Spring Games to involve special education students in Special Olympics activities. 575 athletes from 35 elementary and middle schools will participate in track and field competitions. The program’s expenses are covered by grant money from the LA84 Foundation. This is the program’s third year.

 

WHY: The 2008 LAUSD Spring Games, part of the Special Olympics School Games Program, involve school-age youth in a variety of activities centered on Special Olympics.  Los Angeles Unified School District promotes inclusion in the classroom, benefiting both non-disabled and disabled students.  The School Games introduces students with intellectual disabilities to Special Olympics and helps them grow in their confidence and in their abilities.  Adaptive PE teachers provide students with 12 weeks of training, three days a week to prepare for the Spring Games.

 

WHO: Special Olympics Southern California, Los Angeles Unified School District, and LA84 Foundation are supporting the program and activities.
