Among Special Olympics sports golf provides one of the greatest opportunities for our athletes to train and compete among and alongside their peers in the community. The public setting of a golf course is a great venue for our athletes to demonstrate the skills and passion for the game. Based on the Special Olympics athlete census, there are approximately 6,837 athletes participating in the sport in 49 US Programs and 14 nations around the world. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition to athletes with intellectual disabilities or closely related developmental disabilities. The athletes should be provided with a safe, quality and dignified sports environment with numerous competitive opportunities in the sport.
