Jerry West Honors Special Olympics Athletes

Jerry West was the keynote speaker at the 2011 Rafer Johnson Breakfast with Champions. "Mr. Clutch" was a 14-time NBA All-Star and later was the architect of seven NBA championships as the general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers. Not only was the NBA logo modeled after him but he was recently honored with a statue of his likeness at the Staples Center. Since 2009, Jerry has served as Executive Director of the Northern Trust Open.

Thank you to everyone who supported the 2011 Rafer Johnson Breakfast with Champions on June 11, 2011 at California State Long Beach.

Event Information

The breakfast, which is part of Summer Games, brings leaders of the business and sports communities together to honor the accomplishments of Special Olympics athletes and bring about awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

At the event, more than 400 people were inspired and impressed by the strength and courage of Special Olympics athletes and their families. They met Olympians that rose to the challenge of "being the best that they could be," winning fame and glory.

Best of all, they learned why Special Olympics is more than "a sporting event" — it's a life-changing experience for our athletes and the people who support them.
