Sports Offered
Special Olympics Southern California offers year-round sports training and athletic competition in Olympic-type sports to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Participation is open to anyone age eight and older, and programs are designed to serve all ability levels, all at no cost to participants. Athletes are grouped in competition divisions according to ability level, age and gender. Special Olympics also offers events for lower ability level athletes to train and compete in basic skills. The development of these key skills is necessary prior to advancing to longer competitive events.
Special Olympics athletes can also participate in Unified Sports® competitions. Special Olympics Unified Sports is a program that combines Special Olympics athletes and athletes without intellectual disabilities (partners) on sports teams for training and competition. Unified Sports opportunities are available for basketball, floor hockey, golf, bocce, bowling, soccer, softball and volleyball.
Special Olympics Southern California currently offers 12 sports (see Program Locator for sports offered near you). Or visit our Events Calendar to see upcoming Sports Events.
