About Us

Special Olympics was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968. Special Olympics Santa Clarita Valley (SOSCV) began in 1998, ten years ago, and still growing rapidly. The teams are named the “Santa Clarita Sharks.” “Let’s Go Sharks”


The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.


The goal of Special Olympics is enhance lives through sports. We provide training and competitions for athlete ages 8 to 80.


The sports currently offered in the Santa Clarita Valley include: basketball, bocce, bowling, golf, floor hockey, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming, track and field, tennis and volleyball.


The Special Olympic oath is “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

Special Olympics Santa Clarita Valley currently hosts 7 different competitions throughout the year. These include a bowling tournament, cycling tournament, softball tournament and the Annual Spirit Games, which offers competition in athletics, aquatics, basketball, bocce, golf, and tennis. Over 800 Special Olympic athletes from surrounding communities attend these competitions in addition to our local athletes.
